Is an online sick note valid for my employer?
Yes. A private medical certificate signed by a GMC registered doctor is accepted by most UK employers. Every Velo Health certificate shows the doctor's name and GMC number and carries a unique reference your employer can ask us to verify.
Do I need a sick note for the first 7 days off work?
Usually not. In the UK you can self-certify for the first 7 calendar days of illness, so most employers should not require a doctor's note for that period. Some employers ask for evidence sooner under their own sick pay policies - that's when a same-day online certificate helps.
How quickly will I get my sick note?
Priority requests are completed within 24 hours or your money back, and are often much faster. Standard requests are completed within 3 business days or your money back.
What if the doctor can't issue my certificate?
If the doctor decides a certificate isn't appropriate - for example because your condition needs an in-person examination - you get an automatic full refund and advice on where to seek care.
Can my sick note be backdated?
Certificates start from the day of your consultation onwards and can cover up to two weeks. We can't backdate certificates to days before you spoke to the doctor.
